Welcome to the Friends of Akitas Trust (UK) website. We are Akita enthusiasts, who felt that we could do more to help Akitas in need. Every week numbers of Akitas end up in council pounds with only seven days to find a home before destruction. We aim to get as many of these Akitas as possible into ’safe’ kennels and ultimately into new forever homes.That’s not to say that we will only help ‘Poundies’. Our objective is to help, rescue where necessary, rehabilitate and rehome any Akita which needs it, through assessing both dog and potential owners, to ensure a well-matched and long lasting, happy relationship.

This would not be possible without the help of our dedicated team of volunteers - from going into dismal pounds to carrying out initial assessments to ensuring support for adopters for the rest of their Akita’s life. Their support is invaluable and without it, FOA simply would not exist.

Between the three trustees we have twelve Akitas, a mixture of rescues, fosters and show dogs. We feel we have a good knowledge of the breed - but are always keen to learn more and would love to hear from other enthusiasts.
